Specialty Medications

Specialty medications are typically bio-engineered and have specific shipping and handling requirements or are required to be dispensed by a specific facility. Please refer to the specialty medication section of the Covered Drug List.

PEHP has partnered with Accredo to assist in dispensing most specialty drugs.

Receiving your specialty drug from Accredo or a contracted specialty vendor will assure you pay the lowest cost. (Benefit design may differ. Refer to your Benefits Summary.) Also, PEHP may require some specialty medications to be obtained from Accredo.

Specialty medications may require preauthorization. Call PEHP at 801-366-7555 or 800-765-7347 to see if your medication requires preauthorization.

Using Accredo is easy. Choose one of the options below:

OPTION 1 - Call Accredo

• Step 1: Find out if your medication requires preauthorization. If it does, contact your doctor so that he or she can obtain one. (See the Preauthorization list section for details.)
• Step 2: If required, once your preauthorization is approved, call Accredo at 800-501-7260.
• Step 3: Accredo will contact your doctor and make all the arrangements.
• Step 4: Accredo will call you back to arrange delivery.

OPTION 2 - Have your doctor call

• Step 1: Provide your doctor with your member ID number (shown on your prescription drug ID card) and ask him or her to call 800-987-4904.
• Step 2: Accredo will contact you or your doctor to arrange delivery.
