Healthy Utah Testing Session FAQs
What is involved in a biometric screening?
PEHP Healthy Utah offers testing sessions at numerous sites around the state. When you participate in a testing session, we'll check your cholesterol, blood glucose, height, weight, body fat percentage, BMI, and blood pressure. We then offer you one-on-one consultation and information on how to improve your test results. Attending a testing session is a required first step before receiving other improvement rebates.
How long does a screening take?
A complete session lasts about 20-30 minutes. If you have several questions or concerns, we are happy to spend extra time with you to ensure you have the information necessary to make informed and healthy choices.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. You can register for a session when you log in to your PEHP account and select “Register for Testing Session” under the “Wellness” menu. Or call us at 801-366-7300.
Can I attend a biometric screening if I am pregnant?
Yes, please inform staff upon arrival you a pregnant. You can participate in the First Steps rebate, and if you don't qualify for the Next Steps rebate, you can participate in the PEHP WeeCare rebate.
Do I need to fast for the cholesterol or glucose tests?
Fasting is recommended, but not required, two to four hours before your testing appointment. You can – and should – drink water to be well hydrated. Also, refrain from exercise 3 hours prior to your appointment as it may affect your cholesterol levels.
Are the Healthy Utah staff registered nurses?
We are not nurses, but we are trained health professionals. Staff members generally have Bachelor's degrees in Health Promotion and Education, Exercise and Sports Science, or other professional certifications.
Do I have to attend a Healthy Utah biometric screening?
No. All PEHP Wellness and Healthy Utah programs are voluntary. If you want to participate and earn your First Steps rebate, eligible PEHP members and spouses can attend a Healthy Utah biometric screening event OR take a First Steps rebate form to their annual preventive visit, then submit the completed form to PEHP Healthy Utah.
